What should people who don’t celebrate Ramadan know?

Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, refraining from eating or drinking. The fast is an act of spiritual discipline, promoting empathy for the less fortunate and a closer connection to God (Allah).

Ramadan is a time for spiritual growth, self-discipline, and reflection. Muslims focus on improving their behaviour, avoiding sinful actions, and strengthening their faith.

How do you connect to Ramadan and what does it mean to you?

It means getting closer to my faith, reconnecting with my values and appreciating the blessings in my life. It’s a time when I slow down and become more mindful – not just about what I eat, but also about my actions, words and intentions.

Is there anything you do in advance of Ramadan to prepare?

Before Ramadan, I prepare by stocking up on food for suhoor and iftar, adjusting my sleep schedule, and setting spiritual goals like reading the Quran more. I also focus on reflecting and getting into the right mindset for the month ahead.

What tips would you share for fasting during Ramadan?

Definitely eating the right food before dawn to sustain my body ’til sunset. Such as eating dates, drinking coconut water and eating bananas.

How do you celebrate Eid?

Ramadan ends with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fast. It is a joyous occasion with communal prayers, feasts, and the giving of gifts.

Before Eid we make sure we give charity to help those in need. On the morning of Eid we all gather and perform a special prayer called salatul Eid. We then usually celebrate with a day full of celebratory meals with family and friends.

What is it like sharing about Ramadan online?

Sharing about Ramadan online is a meaningful way to connect with others and raise awareness about the significance of the month. It allows me to share personal experiences, reflect on the spiritual aspects, and engage with people from different backgrounds. It also creates a sense of community and helps foster understanding and appreciation of the practices and values of Ramadan.
